I wish to park a backup, but when I go to the "Backup History" tab, all the options are grayed out and I am not able to select.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Try selecting a task.

And a history item

Remember folks: Being an administrator doesn't give you automatically full access to all files.

Well I do select a task, but there are no history items to select. The backups do exist on my NAS drive, but there is no history in Cobian 9.

If there is no History item, then there is nothing for Cobian to park, and Cobian is no longer managing any such orphaned backups... they are your responsibility.

Glenn, I guess my quandry is that why is there no history? Backups have been made in Cobian 9. The latest is in the log file, the backup files exist on the NAS drive.

Troubleshoot the problem with a test backup. Upon making the backup, Cobian creates its History entry. If this does not happen, investigate... does log say backup was made?, do backup files exist on destination?, is Cobian updating the task data file in the DB subfolder of its program folder?

The Backup does exist on the destination drive

In the DB folder there is a CBU file with a date/time stamp that concurs with the completion of the backup.

Any ideas?

Should I reload Cobian 9?

The log suggests you are trying to backup the Cobian DB folder. Perhaps this is possible if using VSS, perhaps not, but generally could be causing a problem, or could have cause a corruption at one point that is now causing a problem.

I would not backup the backup program's files. If that does not clear the issue, then start over with a new task definition to produce a new task db file, or start over by re-installing Cobian. The test backup I suggested earlier would have helped here.

Perhaps others will offer suggestions here on how to best backup the Cobian DB files.

The log suggests 2 errors, but you only posted one?

I will remove those from the backup and see what happens. I was doing this because I thought I needed to in order to restore my settings should that need occur. However, I do not find that critical so I'll try that next.

Thanks for the thought. I'll let you know what happens.

No help by removing DB

I just backed up a couple random files and it still has no history.

I'll try reinstalling next.

The log you posted said 2 errors, but you did not post 2 errors... I wonder what the 2nd error was.

As for no History... well somethin's screwed up somewhere! Glad

I found what the issue is.

As I originally said, I found "backup history" grayed out.

Apparently what I was to do was to first click on the other tab, "history", then select a file, THEN I can open "backup history" to park a file, etc.

I might suggest that this was not intuitive for me, and you might consider different terminology or even have a flag popup to direct the user to the next step.

I do thank you for your time, and I must add that even with my adventure, this still is a very nice backup software. I will visit PayPal for you.

Agreed. And I overlooked that you might be talking about the menu 'Backup history', which I never bother to use... I select the History toolbar to open that pane, select a task to display its history items, and then right-click a history item to access the 'Backup history' context menu.

User interface design is quite often a work in progress, especially when done by just one person who can become biased by their own familiarity with program functionality.
